A “true Kiwi emporium”
Pauanesia is a wonderful small enterprise that celebrates New Zealand with a fresh and ever-changing array of its own printed home textiles, merino possum knitted accessories, ceramics, jewellery, and craft. Opened in 1995, Pauanesia has earned a reputation with locals and visitors as an exciting and unique “true Kiwi emporium”. Pauanesia is staffed by passionate Kiwis. We remain focussed on telling New Zealand stories, and source locally by collaborating with other NZ enterprises as much as possible, although to give our customers good value as well as great kiwi design, a small percentage of our collection is commissioned form off-shore. Ethical, sustainable resourcing, environmental care, and retailing with integrity have always been core Pauanesia values, shared by all of the team.

Our collection of printed home textiles captures the beauty, the colours, and the spirit of our land - in cushions, tablecloths, tea towels and table runners. This is a dream come true for owner Heather Gerbic, who had lamented the absence of textiles reflecting our beautiful country. Each year, a new collection of New Zealand-inspired home textiles are printed in small runs. Three years ago we added our first collection of wearable textiles in our Merino/Possum collection of scarves, wraps and throws.
We collaborate with local jewellers, artisans, and ceramic studios to fill Pauanesia with beautiful distinctive items; all with a New Zealand story.

We are small - not a big corporation - so please give us time to make shopping with us a pleasure. Christmas is always frantic and we don’t have huge store rooms, so to avoid disappointment, please give us good notice.
