A little about us

Pauanesia is a wonderful, small Auckland city store that celebrates New Zealand with an ever-changing array of home textiles, ceramics, jewellery, and craft. Opened in 1995, Pauanesia has earned a reputation with locals and visitors as an “exciting Kiwi treasure trove” of cool Kiwi-ish items to adorn your home and body, and to give as gifts.

Our store is staffed by passionate Kiwis who are happy to share the background to our enterprise and our collection. Pauanesia has deliberately remained small, locally-focussed,and dynamic. A one-off experience to enjoy.

Since 1995, we've launched our collection of printed home textiles - capturing the beauty, the colours, and the spirit of our land - in cushions, tablecloths and lampshades. This is a dream-come true for owner Heather Gerbic, who launched the business with her husband Nigel. Each year, new exclusive tablecloths, cushions, tea towels, and table runners have been added; screen-printed in small runs. Two years ago we commissioned our own Merino/Possum collection of scarves, wraps and throws, named Wairua.

Besides the textiles, we collaborate with local jewellers, artisans and ceramic studios to fill the small store with distinctive, uniquely NZ goods.

For those not able to visit the store, this website features a selection of popular Pauanesia items we are happy to ship. We are small - not a big corporation - so please give us time to make shopping with us a pleasure. Christmas is always frantic and we don’t have huge store rooms, so to avoid disappointment please give us good notice.
