Pauanesia commissioned artist Melissa Martyn to design a Hauraki Gulf inspired tea towel design. She has incorporated Kokako, Tieke (Saddleback), Kakariki (yellow crowned Parakeet), Toutouwai (black Robin) and Piwakawaka . These are some of the endangered native birds found on Tiritiri Matangi island bird sanctuary.
Flax colourway has a golden soft corn background with teal terracotta and black colours incorporated in the birds.

“Conservation of Habitat” Tea towel designs
Aotearoa/New Zealand’s original geographic isolation resulted in a unique flora and fauna, that with the introduction of exotic species has correspondingly declined.
These designs celebrate firstly conservation efforts epitomized here in Auckland by the establishment of Tiri Tiri Matangi island bird sanctuary which is depicted using the motif of a jug/ vessel supporting the birds amidst feathers tossed by the winds of the Hauraki Gulf.
