Pounamu Toki Andrew Hughes

This piece was carved by Andrew Hughes, Ngāi Tahu. The Toki pendant shape derives originally from the adzes implement used to cut down trees, make waka (canoes) and  decorate meeting houses. The Māori attributed meaning for this traditional shape is strength, determination and leadership

All our carvers are passionate about creating beautiful pendants that capture the beauty of this Nephrite greenstone Jade.  We respect its heritage by calling it Pounamu, its first-name given to it by Ngāi Tahu, the tribe who has guardianship for this taonga (treasure).

Pauanesia maintains a good stock of New Zealand pounamu, we have over 50 pieces in store.
