The Takapu (Australasian Gannets) nest on the near-by islands of Motutara and Oaia off Muriwai on the West Auckland coast. They use the air updrafts to soar high above the sea and spot fish movement and then dive like a falling dart in to the sea to catch unsuspecting fish in their beak. This is captured by artist Emma Lovegrove in her watercolour painting on this cotton canvas tea towel.
