Melissa Martyn’s created this cushion cover's Matariki design to tell the story of the little eyes of Tawhirimatea (God of the Weather) that were stuck to the chest of Ranginui (God of the Sky). With no eyes Tawhirimatea must now use the winds to feel his way around, making the winds of Aotearoa unpredictable. His eyes, stuck to Ranginui, are now seen as the Matariki constellation and mark the dawn of the Māori New Year.
