Melissa Martyn’s artwork for this tea towel tells the story of the little eyes of Tawhirimatea (God of the Weather) that were stuck to the chest of Ranginui (God of the Sky). With no eyes Tawhirimatea must now use the winds to feel his way around, making the winds of Aotearoa unpredictable. His eyes, stuck to Ranginui, are now seen as the Matariki constellation and mark the dawn of the Māori New Year.
You might notice tiny little globules of imperfection dotted throughout the linen Tea towel. These are called ‘slubs’, and they’re actually naturally-occurring and the mark of true linen. These are part of linen’s organic appeal, and are a mark of a high quality, authentic fabric. They are not a fabric fault.Details
